Gazprom cancels tender for construction of pipeline stretch crucial for Nord Stream-2
Russian gas giant Gazprom has cancelled the tender worth 2.879 bln rubles ($39 mln) for the construction of a-89.8 km stretch of the pipeline, which is crucial for Nord Stream-2 project, according to the documents of the company's procurement department.
The construction of the Ukhta-Torzhok pipeline is required for the expansion of the unified system of gas supply for the Nord Stream-2 project.
The gas giant has not canceled other tenders for the pipeline construction.
In September 2015, Gazprom, E.ON, ENGIE, OMV and Shells signed a shareholder agreement on the Nord Stream 2, the construction project of the natural gas pipeline with the capacity of 55 bln cubic meters from Russia to Germany across the Baltic Sea.
In order to supply gas to the Nord Stream-2 a new gas transportation infrastructure should be built as part of the unified system of gas supply. The key stage for this is the construction of the Ukhta-Torzhok-2 pipeline.
The 970-kilomentre Ukhta-Torzhok-2 gas pipeline will have a design capacity of 45 bln cubic meters of gas a year. It will have eight compressor stations with an aggregate capacity of 689 MW.
CEO of Russia's gas giant Gazprom, Alexei Miller, said earlier that the gas pipeline would be built and ready for commissioning by the end of 2019.
