Venezuela deploys more military units on Colombian border
Venezuela has deployed more military units on the Colombian border. President Hugo Chavez says that his country is not about to attack, but warns that Caracas is prepared to defend its sovereignty.
Chavez also offered assurances that he is a firm supporter of the policy of peace with the neighbouring Colombia. But, he said, Bogota has posed a potential military threat to Venezuela.
Chavez announced the severing of diplomatic relations with Colombia on the 22nd of this month, after Colombian officials claimed during an emergency meeting of the Organization of American States that the leaders of leftist extremist rebel groups were hiding in Venezuela.
Caracas has emphatically rejected the accusations and said that the Bogota-submitted evidence was no more than a bunch of lies and crude forgery.
