Venezuela seeks to avoid Colombia's "desperate actions", says FM
The Venezuelan government seeks to avoid desperate actions of Colombia after Bogota accused Caracas of allowing anti-Colombia guerrilla bases in the country, said Foreign Minister Nicolas Maduro on Tuesday in Santiago.
Maduro is visiting South American countries to avoid desperate actions like military action against his country, Maduro told reporters after a meeting with Chilean Foreign Minister Alfredo Moreno.
"We hope that Chile is part of the solution and help where possible to close the gap and keep the peace the between two nations," said Moreno.
Venezuela's Maduro arrived in the Chilean capital on Tuesday after visiting Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay with an intention to explain to each government the message Caracas plans to deliver at an upcoming meeting of the Union of South American Nations. The suspension of relations between Venezuela and Colombia will be the main topic of meeting in Quito, Ecuador.
Venezuela on Thursday severed ties with Colombia after Bogota accused Caracas of allowing Colombian guerrilla bases in the Venezuelan territory.
